Coffee Cups

Inspired by my Mum’s newly rekindled passion for hand made crockery and all things wabi sabi from our trip to Japan, I put my hands to work. Well I didn’t quite have the same poise as mum on the wheel, I knew what shapes I liked and I wanted to replicate them. So we began to learn slip casting.

The amount of love, precision and effort that is put into a good shot of espresso from the bean to the cup is astounding and very complex, to the point that there are so many variables in producing, roasting and preparing coffee it is almost impossible to have two identical cups of coffee. I thought it fitting to have a hand crafted vessel for our coffee. As a believer in chaos, I like to entertain the idea that small amounts of randomness is a good thing and as such I would like my ceramics to surprise and delight people as they enjoy their coffee.

Here are a few images of the process of slip casting and making mini molds, and at the bottom, the result, Kat enjoying a tiny flat white. :)
